Bill was raised in Manassas, Virginia and attended local schools all the way through college. When he was growing up his father was a Bio Medical electrician and his mother owned a daycare center. He started working at an early age, selling newspapers and cutting grass.
In 1992, Bill met his wife, who had just joined the Air Force and who got stationed back home at Bolling AFB in Washington, DC. In 1995, they were then stationed over the pond at Lakenheath, UK where he worked for the 48th Air Force contracting office, purchasing everything from hospital equipment to IT equipment for mission critical deployments.
Their next assignment was at Lackland AFB, Texas, where Bill worked as a lab equipment and computer hardware buyer for the University of Texas at San Antonio to support the Department of Science and Engineering. In 2002, his wife, after an honorable discharge from the Air Force decided to attend law school at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, TX. There Bill had an opportunity to work for Sunrise Senior Living who acquired Marriott communities just after a few months of his joining the team. The Sunrise core business model changed from majority owner/operator to a management company. Over his almost 8 year period working for Sunrise Bill had several key roles such as, Senior Systems Analyst for Resident Safety system to Telecom Project Manager to IT Field Service Manager. He had the pleasure to work and establish relationships with so many wonderful people at Sunrise and to deal with many vendors across North America and Europe.
Sunrise was a very fast pace environment with an average of 25 new construction projects, 20 retrofits and numerous acquisitions that kept him very busy. Bill had the opportunity to visit many of the Resident Safety system companies to get a real idea of their operations and how they support their customers. He had a chance to work both on the IT and operations side, which gave him great experience from working with executives, owners, consultants and IT personnel.
In his early teenage years Bill’s grandfather was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and lived with it for many painful years. When many of his friends would invite him to the beach, Bill would spend his summers with his grandmother traveling back in forth to a VA hospital. At the time there were no assisted living communities like we have today. Bill is extremely thankful for the companies like Sunrise (and countless others) that are passionate and dedicated to caring for seniors.
Bill’s passion, dedication and knowledge of the senior living industry make him an invaluable resource for senior living companies.
